Here’s Everything We Know About the 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
This is gonna be awesome.
Back in January, we told you to expect that the upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s top speed will exceed 200 mph. Ford followed that up with a tweet that we can expect it to top 700 horsepower when it arrives at the Detroit Auto Show in 2019.

But now we’ve got some more details. Unsurprisingly, the GT500’s small block V8 will need a supercharger to achieve that kind of power. But we’ve wondered what the engine’s displacement will be.
Mustang Manny posted a shot on Instagram showing a supercharger housing with the number “5.2” cast into it, indicating that it will indeed be a 5.2-liter version of the engine.

And Mustang6G has posted a video confirming an automatic transmission version of the GT500 in addition to the expected six-speed manual. Whether that automatic will be Ford’s 10-speed automatic or a new dual-clutch setup remains to be seen.
Ford is serious about meeting the challenge from its crosstown rivals, so the GT500 is going to need to top the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the Camaro ZL1.
Our friends over at Motor Trend spotted a ZL1 being tested alongside a GT500 prototype near Ford’s Arizona Proving Grounds.
