Lamborghini Is About To Unleash the Fastest SUV Ever Made
Your trip to Home Depot just got a whole lot quicker.
Meet the ultimate “Raging Bull” of the SUV market, Lamborghini’s Urus, which the company vows will be the world’s fastest sport utility vehicle.
Our friends at MotorAuthority took the opportunity at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week to pin down Lamborghini‘s affable research and development chief Maurizio Reggiani on the anticipated performance of the upcoming Urus crossover SUV.
He revealed that this new model will uphold Lamborghini’s reputation for blistering performance by storming the Nurburgring faster than any SUV before it.
“Our SUV will achieve more than 300 kph (187 mph) because it’s a Lamborghini. It’s our DNA,” Reggiani told MotorAutho. “(We will) achieve the best lap time for an SUV on Nordschleife—this is a faster SUV.”
The outgoing Porsche Cayenne Turbo S set the current mark of 7:59.74. Porsche used the show to introduce the 2018 Cayenne Turbo S, which is built on the same underpinnings as Lamborghini’s Urus.
But the Lamborghini will be faster because its version of the shared turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 is said to be tuned to 650 horsepower rather than the 570 horsepower Porsche announced for the Turbo S.
Lamborghini knows how to set Nurburgring records, as it first set the production car record with the Aventador Superveloce last year, then reset the record this year with the Huracan Performante, with a time of 6:52.01.
Still another member of the Volkswagen Group, Bentley, currently claims to have the world’s fastest SUV by top speed. The Bentley Bentayga is rated at 187 mph and accelerates to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, so Urus will have to top those numbers to back up Reggiani’s boasts.
“Urus is the really the future of Lamborghini (with) all the DNA of the Huracán, Aventador, and LM002,” Reggiani said to MotorAuthority. “(Bentley has) a different mission. If you buy a Bentley…you don’t buy a car for a statement. If you buy a Lamborghini, you buy it to say, ‘I have something different.’”
We will know the final details Dec. 4, when Lamborghini will officially introduce the Urus. Put your orders in now.
