This Hybrid-Electric Lambo Aims to Take the ‘Fastest Car’ Title from Tesla

Enough is enough, and Lamborghini is apparently sick of having its vaunted exotic two-seaters shown up in Internet acceleration videos by the all-electric Tesla Model S. In search of a 2.5-second 0-60 acceleration time, the Raging Bull brand will borrow electric drive technology from Porsche’s upcoming Mission E electric sedan to augment its ferocious V10 and V12 gasoline engines.

This is according to German car magazine AutoBild, which produced a German-language video discussing the anticipated model, which they’ve imagined with this rendering.

The project has been named “Vitola,” according to the magazine, and the existence of an official name suggests the effort is serious and not wistful off-hours dreaming by a few ambitious engineers.

It is worth remembering that while the 2.9-second 0-60 mph Tesla Model S P100D can out-accelerate a Lamborghini in a test, the electric car would be hard-pressed to repeat the performance a few times, and it would stand no chance in any race lasting more than a dozen seconds. That’s because the Tesla’s batteries and electronic systems would soon overheat and the car would automatically reduce its performance to protect itself from damage.

Lamborghini Aventador SV

So don’t wait for that video of a Model S hot lap of the Nurburgring like this one by a Lamborghini Aventador SV, it ain’t happening. But Lamborghini could have something for you in a couple years.
