Maserati to Begin Production of Its All-Electric Tesla-Killer, the Insanely Quick Alfieri
The concept car is becoming a reality, and it’ll rocket to 60 mph in 2 seconds.
“It may look like we are targeting Tesla: we are.” That was the bold statement by Maserati boss Tim Kuniskis, speaking at the company’s annual strategy event. “We are going to accomplish this by bringing to market something than no one in the industry can match.”
We already know the Alfieri is gorgeous. The concept has been teasing us since 2014. The production version is finally in the works, and the planned battery-electric coupe will finally arrive by 2022, Kuniskis promised.
He teased us with some specifications too: 0-60 acceleration in 2 seconds! Top speed of more than 186 mph (which is faster than the license-losing 185 mph Maserati of Joe Walsh’s Life Is Good song fame). An aluminum space frame and active aerodynamics and torque vectoring for light weight and agility.
And better still, there’s a convertible version planned too!
That’s all the information for now, sadly, so we’ll just have to wait to see how Maserati’s challenge of incumbent EV king Tesla plays out.
