Behold the Mighty 50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake

It slithers even faster with 750 horsepower.

A half century after Carroll Shelby introduced the very first Shelby Super Snake, his company has introduced an incredible limited-production 750-horsepower 50th-anniversary tribute car.

Shelby American says that it will build 500 examples of the 2017 Super Snake, which begins at $69,995 in its base 670-horsepower version. An optional larger supercharger produces the extra power of the 750-horse model.

Some of the Super Snake’s performance specifications are 0-60 mph acceleration of 3.5 seconds, quarter-mile time of 10.9 seconds and the ability to corner at 1.2 Gs.

“When Carroll Shelby introduced the Super Snake version of the Ford Mustang in 1967, it earned universal respect for its astonishing capabilities,” said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American.

“That tradition continues with our newest Shelby Super Snake, which is better in every way. Carroll’s bold spirit lives on through this amazing car.”

While the Super Snake is based on the Ford Mustang GT, it is differentiated by a new hood, rockers, spoilers, splitters, grilles, fog lights, rear tail panel and rear diffuser assembly.

Inside, the Shelby gets unique anniversary Katzkin leather upholstery, a roll bar and removed rear seat.

A Borla exhaust contributes an appropriate soundtrack for the supercharged 5.0-liter V8, while Michelin tires provide grip and larger Wilwood six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers and rotors help rein in the fun.

You can’t go wrong with the classic American muscle and style of a Shelby, and 750 horsepower should keep your attention for quite a while.
