The Trophy Rat is the Mutant Off-Road Hot Rod Pick Up You Deserve
It’s a maniacal mash-up of old-timey hot rod and badass truck.
Meet the Trophy Rat, an awesomely unorthodox off-road truck created by Northrup Fab, a steel fabrication shop in Kirkland, Washington. It’s part truck, part hot rod, and all awesome.
“We just kind of wanted to hit every realm, with the hot rod, the trophy truck,” Northrup explains in a YouTube video about the truck. “We’d love to go take it to a road course.”
Starting with little more than an old cab, bed, hood and grille from a 1937 International Harvester pickup truck, Northrup created the truck’s structure from steel tubing and countless hours of expert welding.
Propulsion is from that universal power source, a Chevrolet small block V8.
In this instance, it is an older aluminum block 5.7-liter LS6, good for about 300 horsepower. “I kind of went simple with the two-wheel drive,” Northrup noted.
The Trophy Rat puts its power to the ground through 35” Nitto Trail Grappler mud terrains tires mounted on Trail Ready bead lock wheels, with Bypass suspension tuned by King Shocks.
Next up for Northrup could be something with power to all four wheels, but it will be hard for him to top the simplicity and greatness of the Trophy Rat.
