Will This New All-Electric Porsche Be a Tesla Killer?

The German sports car company's Mission E is gunning for Elon Musk's electric empire.

Porsche is all charged up and ready to take on Tesla with a stunning new electric car.

OK, so Porsche’s all-electric Mission E concept car won’t be available until 2019 at the absolute earliest, but its sleek lines, 600 horsepower engine, 300 mile range and impressive recharging time of under 15 minutes are reason to enough to start getting excited.

Unveiled Monday at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the all-wheel drive Mission E zips from zero-to-60 mph in just under 3.5 seconds, and hits 120 mph in just under 12 seconds.

But before everyone starts tweeting photos of the Mission E at Tesla founder Elon Musk, the longstanding emperor of electric automobiles, Porsche claims that it’s not overly concerned with  the Mission E taking on Tesla, whose Model S sedan sells for about $100,000.

Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche’s global head of research and development, told the Los Angeles Times that the time was finally right for Porsche to roll out an electric car.

“We don’t do a car because Telsa has done a Model S,” Hatz said. “We have our own plans. The time was not right before now to bring a pure battery car onto the market. But now the time is right.”

Whatever you say, Wolfgang, but we’re still psyched for the first IRL, all-electric showdown between Porsche and Tesla. May the best car win.
