According to data released by Match.com, January 2nd is the busiest day of the year in the world of online dating. The website claims that it typically sees a 55 percent spike in new member registration on this date, which it attributes to the fact that people are looking for love in the new year.
Presumably everyone was too hungover to bother finding a soul mate yesterday, on the official start of the new year. But now that we’re all back at work, there’s plenty of time to waste. Here at Maxim, our New Year’s resolutions were a lot more unsavory than “looking for love,” but, you know, to each his own. So just in case any of our readers are spending the afternoon filling out a Match.com profile, we’ve compiled a few helpful tips.
1) Lie. Girls don’t want to date the guy whose profile highlights his vast knowledge of nunchucks and comic books. But they do want to date the guy whose profile implies that he is wealthy and handsome. Sure, they might be disappointed when they meet you in person, but if you’re anything like us, then that was bound to happen anyway.
2) Avoid using emoticons or abbreviations such as LOL, LMAO, ROTFL, etc. Note: this tip also applies to life in general.
3) Unless you are really, really, ridiculously good-looking, when it comes to your profile photo, less is more. You know that pic where your face is partially obscured? It’s perfect.
