Aaron Rodgers and Olivia Munn were never able to be a normal couple, but that’s the price you pay when you’re a celebrity who dates a celebrity. Now, nearly five months after their breakup, Rodgers is blaming their split on the constant attention and manufactured drama that comes with so many high profile celebrity relationships.
“When you are living out a relationship in the public eye, it’s definitely … it’s difficult,” he recently told ESPN the Magazine. “It has some extra constraints, because you have other opinions about your relationship, how it affects your work and, you know, just some inappropriate connections.”
Those “inappropriate connections” include the suggestion that Rodgers’ relationship with Munn somehow hurt his play on the field. Of the people who might make that suggestion, Rodgers says, “They’re such misogynists, right?”
But for Rodgers and Munn, it wasn’t just the talking head sports bloviators who made their relationship difficult. It was his own family. Comments from Rodgers brother and father suggested that Munn was responsible for family drama that resulted in a rift between Aaron and the rest of the clan. Here’s how one person close to family described the conflict to US Weekly.
“Aaron is the one that has pulled away from the family, not the reverse,” a source exclusively tells Us. “When he got together with Olivia Munn, his family told him they didn’t trust her and thought she wasn’t with him for the right reasons. That made him furious, and he ended up choosing Olivia over his family.”
And then his family went and aired their dirty laundry in public, which only pissed Rodgers off more. As he told ESPN, he believes in keeping private issues private. Why? “Because a lot of people have family issues,” he said. “I’m not the only one that does. It needs to be handled the right way.”
“I think there should be a separation between your public life and your personal life,” he added. And in his public life, Rodgers doesn’t want drama. He just wants to play football, have a Tom Selleck mustache and be allowed to date who he wants without landing on TMZ.
