Watch This Totally NSFW Video of Ex-Mets Manager Terry Collins Ripping an Umpire
Put this stuff on TV, and young people will start watching baseball again.
Major League Baseball and those who love the sport spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about bringing more young fans to the game. A brisker pace is the most common suggestion. Others have proposed rule changes to promote scoring or allowing players more freedom to show their personality.
Here’s another suggestion: Mic up managers so we can hear them losing their shit.
A newly viral video of an old managerial blow up provides evidence of just how fun these rants are. Shot two years ago after Noah Syndergaard was tossed for throwing behind Chase Utley, this video shows former Mets manager Terry Collins going ballistic on home plate umpire Adam Hamari and crew chief Tom Hallion.
The video begins with Hallion talking to Syndergaard. Tempers remain fairly subdued. But then, off screen, Collins starts to lose his temper and Hallion runs to Hamari’s aid.
Collins lets loose. “You cockscuker!” “That’s fucking bullshit!” And on and on.

Collins makes it clear that Syndergaard was throwing at Utley on purpose. When he says “MLB did nothing to that guy,” he’s referring to Utley and his slide in the playoffs the year prior, which broke the leg of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada.
When the game that included Syndergaard’s ejection was on TV, it obviously aired without Collins’ comment. That was missed opportunity.
Want to get kids into baseball? Show them that madness instead of this.
