Eighteen of the world’s most insane mountain bikers gathered last week in Virgin, Utah, to compete in the annual Red Bull Rampage freeride mountain bike competition.

This year’s champion at the invitation-only event was Kurt Sorge from Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Watch him flip, whip and ride his way to the gold medal above.

Kurt Sorge stomps the second of two back flips during his first place run.

A team of judges rates each rider on four criteria: difficulty of line, air amplitude, control and fluidity, and tricks. Sorge’s batshit run earned him a composite score of 92.66, making him the first competitor to win the Rampage three times since its inception in 2001.

Reno, Nevada native Cam Zink came in second place with a 90.33, and next-generation shredder Ethan Nell of St. George, Utah took the last spot on the winner’s podium with an even 90.

These adrenaline junkies make it all look like a walk in the park. A first-person video from People’s Choice Award winner Antoine Bizet’s run shows just how berserk stomping a double back flip looks from a biker’s perspective.
