The AlpinerX Is the Rugged, Outdoorsy Smartwatch You’ve Been Waiting For

The luxury Swiss watchmaking world hasn’t sat out the smartwatch trend. There are high-priced options coming out of Tag Heuer, Breitling and more.

Now, Alpina has debuted one that actually makes sense. The sports-minded watchmaker has a Kickstarter up to test the waters with its AlpinerX outdoorsy smartwatch.

If you pledge $555 or more, 40 percent off its planned retail price, you’ll be sent an early edition in a customizable colorway. Design yours on the AlpinerX Watch Configurator.

Back to the cool stuff: it’s not purely a smartwatch, although it will connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth to track your whereabouts, sleep, activity and so on.

It also rocks a MMT-283-1 quartz hybrid movement with ticking hands so you will not feel like you’re missing out on the benefits of a traditional watch.

It also syncs up to your text messages and boasts a UV sensor, which will tell you how much sun you’re getting.

The AlpinerX is made of fiberglass so it is built to last in the wild… and underwater down to 320 feet.

Pledge $550 on Kickstarter and get yours now. Or just $35 for one nifty “outdoors bag.”
