It stands to reason that if a watch collaboration sells out in less than three hours, it’s certainly worth exploring again.
That was the case when Hodinkee and Italian watchmaker UNIMATIC teamed up on an exclusive trio of watches in 2021, and it could very well be the case with a just-launched duo of innovative timepieces from the partnership’s latest offering.
Hodinkee, at once a watch retailer, reviewer and collaboration partner, has a knack for the unexpected, be it producing a titanium watch with Hublot or lending a helping hand as UNIMATIC makes its first-ever carbon fiber watches.
The Hodinkee eye for design, and the unexpected, even lent itself to an impossibly cool Hodinkee x Leica camera, and the company’s latest collaborative effort is similarly impressive.
The UNIMATIC Modello Quattro U4S-Carbon and Modello Uno U1S-Carbon GMT Limited Edition are available exclusively in the Hodinkee Shop.
The real key with the latest run of rugged-meets-refined watches? It’s the carbon fiber cases that break new ground for the upstart European horology specialists.
The duo (which is priced nicely starting at $2,200, or $2,900 for the GMT option) represents a step into uncharted territory for UNIMATIC.
The watchmaker noted that the “innovative material” of carbon fiber “explores new boundaries for UNIMATIC’s product lineup.”
Both watches ship in the company’s trademark UNIMATIC Tough Case, but both should also prove plenty durable and yet precise when on the wrist: The GMT runs off a Swiss-made ETA 2893-2 automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve.
Meanwhile, the UNIMATIC Modello Quattro U4S-Carbon features a Swiss Sellita SW-1b automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve.
A commemorative caseback marks the occasion on each watch, and each sleek, smoky grey dial is also outfitted with SuperLuminova indices and hands. To top things off, the GMT edition is water-resistant up to 300 meters.
If results of the first Hodinkee x UNIMATIC partnership are any indication, neither of these watches will stay in stock very long. Head to the Hodinkee Shop to see if any are still on the market.
