It was only “A Question of Time” before Hublot and Depeche Mode collaborated once again for a good cause.
The luxury Swiss watchmaker and the English synth-pop legends first minted their partnership in 2010 with a philanthropic focus. In the years since, sales from their collectible timepieces have helped raise over $2.3 million for Britain’s Teenage Cancer Trust and Charity: Water, a non-profit that provides safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
Now, on the heels of Depeche Mode’s acclaimed 15th studio album Memento Mori and global tour, the group is joining forces with Hublot to support the Conservation Collective, a growing global network of local foundations that funds grass-roots initiatives to restore nature and safeguard against climate change.
The sinister-looking ticker that supports that environmental mission is the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode, a decidedly dark timepiece featuring a polished black ceramic 42mm case and a dial emblazoned with a grinning skull.
Small black spheres move throughout the design as the wearer’s wrist moves, symbolizing the central concept of the Latin phrase Memento Mori, or “remember you must die.”
Alongside the dial, the band’s “DM” logo appears at 6 o’clock and on the transparent caseback, which partially shows the self-winding HUB1710_SD caliber movement. Two straps are included: one made from recycled materials that’s fastened by Velcro, and another made from black rubber that’s fastened with a black titanium clasp.
Each watch comes with an exclusive 10-inch vinyl single of Depeche Mode’s 2023 single “Wagging Tongue,” manufactured using green energy and recycled Polyvinyl Chloride.
