Sometimes, a hoodie or a t-shirt is more than just, well, a hoodie or a t-shirt, especially if it’s made the right way. When it comes to Huckberry’s new Trumbull Detroit line by acclaimed menswear designer Aaron Levine, that sentiment certainly holds true.

It’s Levine’s first time working with online menswear retailer Huckberry, known as much for its rugged waxed trucker jackets as its partnerships with American standards like Timex. And Trumbull Detroit brings it all together in handsome fashion.

Levine, shown above wearing the new line, is the man behind both the resurgence of Abercrombie & Fitch across the last decade, as well as the fresh, sharp blend of tailoring and sportswear found at Club Monaco over a decade ago.

But rather than leaning into high fashion, Trumbull Detroit looks to mid-century American sportswear staples of decades gone by, like the classic hooded sweatshirt, the tried-and-true T-shirt and expertly washed full-zip and quarter-zip sweatshirts.

The collection boasts a tasteful, dusty color palette, the kind that wears well with just about anything and in any season. As Levine told Huckberry, the partnership came down to a natural fit and feel after the two sides first met up.

“It was an immediate connection,” Levine told Huckberry, adding that “I’ve worked a lot with big brands and that’s been really creatively fulfilling in so many ways.”

“They’re more fashion forward though and what I saw is that Huckberry is much more about gear and getting out there and supplying people with the gear they need to have the lifestyle they want. That’s how I live and create.”

Levine and Huckberry then enlisted Soft Goods in Detroit to come up with the perfect fabric mix across the line, so named for the street where Soft Goods founder Josh York works.

The result is a hearty, expertly cut and sewn collection of stylish, understated and utterly classic menswear, as ideal for lounging as travel or dive bar nights. Better still is the collection’s USA-made roots, the nicely sized and roomier proportions, and the inspiration of classic American sportswear.

“These pieces are designed to be the cornerstone of a wardrobe,” Levine told Huckberry. “The kind of pieces that are easy to throw on and feel immediately comfortable. They’re great for a long haul flight, to use as a pillow or a scarf, an extra layer on a cold morning, for post-work relaxation, or a drink in the hotel after a long travel day.”
