Nike is celebrating the Air Max 90’s 30th birthday in style with an all-new limited edition version of the beloved sneaker.

Nike

Legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield crafted the first Air Max 90, which was originally released as the Air Max III in 1990. Hatfield’s version included numerous improvements over its predecessors like a bigger cushioning Air unit, improved flexibility, and a variable, multi-port lacing system that allowed more fit options. These upgraded features all helped the shoe become a cult classic on the streetwear scene by the 2000s.

Arriving first in a Sail colorway to accentuate details, the latest Air Max 90 gets internal renovations to the silhouette with the shoe’s original plush linings and construction. Hidden “Easter eggs” that true sneakerheads will appreciate include an Air Max 1 outsole opposite the sockliner and the same hazard-striped skinny box design that Nike first debuted across multiple models in the 1990s.

The upper’s key elements include a sleek deconstructed toe, polyurethane eyelets, a dynamic mudguard, and the original Air Max 90’s retro Swoosh shape on the quarter and logo on the rubber heel.

The 30th anniversary Nike Air Max 90 CS drops on  December 21 in unisex sizing at select retailers and the SNKRS and SNEAKRS apps. More hues inspired by the shoe’s original color blockings will follow.
