Noel Fisher has dabbled in a little bit of everything. After experimenting with a variety of classes in his youth (from judo to piano), the Vancouver native stumbled upon acting – and it stuck. “If I wasn’t acting, I’d be writing,” he says. “I think it’s amazing to just pull ideas out of nowhere and really wrap your head around them. Another job that isn’t regular.”
He’s come a long way since then, with plenty of television and film roles under his belt. While his turns as an alien-crushing soldier (Battle: Los Angeles) and a pizza-loving turtle (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) are notable, Noel is most recognized as Mickey Milkovich, the overly-aggressive, and openly gay character on the critically acclaimed series, Shameless. While the series focuses on a dysfunctional Chicago family of six, Noel’s character still stands out in the crowd.
“I hope we continue to shed stereotypes. There’s a lot of good TV that’s breaking the mold, with Shameless included,” Noel tells Maxim. “There’s preconceived notions of what people are, based on their choices and what that makes them, and I hope we move into people being people. It lets me play more interesting characters too.. because it’s all about me, c’mon!” [laughs]
Noel told us a little bit about keeping it simple, a good pair of jeans, and great acting roles.
