To name its premier weekend bag, Pendleton Woolen Mills looked to none other than its founder, Thomas Kay, who settled in Oregon in 1863 after an arduous four-month journey up the Pacific coast. Like the man, the Thomas Kay Weekender can withstand a hell of a lot. It’s overqualified to hold your toothbrush, scuffed flask and four t-shirts: The heavy wool-cotton weave, heavy plated clasps and inches-thick burnished leather strap are as hardy as the proportions are hefty. The lining is durable cotton-canvas (throw in pocket knives and cameras with abandon), and two interior leather pockets provide first-class accommodations for valuables.
The print is from Pendleton’s original stock of Indian trading blankets, and features the famous geometric intricacies Pendleton is known for in a palette that remains on-trend despite being a century old. And that’s what this bag has going for it: It’s of the moment and will be a hundred years down the line.[$649; Pendleton-usa.com]
