Sustainability minded watchmaker REC manufactures timepieces from recycled materials, typically retro cars that are beyond the point of repair. While this ensures these classic specimens never go to waste in chop shops, it also grants watch geeks the chance to don the patina of an old-timey car on their wrists.

The new 901 Collection from REC beautifully bares out the company ethos. Each watch in the collection is made from scrap materials from old Porsche 901s, an earlier iteration of the truly iconic Porsche 911.

In all, there are three models—the 901-01, the 901-02 and the 901-03. All feature genuine Porsche materials on their dials but are nonetheless all clearly delineated by their varying leather straps and colorways.

But the car’s spirit extends beyond the materials inside the watch. Grooved ridges on the side of the dial recall the rear grille of the Porsche 911, the numbers are etched in the company’s recognizable font, the imprint on the crowns mimic those of early 911 steering wheels, and the leather straps are meant to evoke the luxurious leather interiors, among other cleverly placed details.
