Seiko is a great watchmaker in its own right, turning out quality consumer timepieces and luxury watches under its Grand Seiko line. But they’ve joined forces with Japanese designers nano universe to put out the stylish SZSJ005, which rocks a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona-like vibe but is an affordable chronograph that won’t—at a minimum—cost as much as a compact car.

Roger Federer’s Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

This nano universe x Seiko collaboration looks back on a specific era, the 1960s and the Rolex Daytonas popular among well-heeled collectors today.

This stainless steel chronograph sports an elegant, polished bezel with a tachymeter scale and pushers. It runs off the reliable quartz 8T67 movement and true to its multifunction design it has 100 meters of water-resistance, making it a viable tool watch—perhaps even the preferred one for a dive when you’d perhaps rather not risk a Rolex.

The polished black face of the SZSJ005 also bears the Seiko name and “Chronograph” designation.

On the nano universe website, there’s a waiting list for this watch. It’s in Japanese, but you can check it out here whether that’s your native language or not. The Seiko x nano universe retails (where available) for $270.
