Seiko first launched Seiko 5 Sports watches in 1963. You can still find the vintage versions online, going for up to nearly $800 if they’re in good shape. 

Many qualities found in the original Seiko 5 line ended up inspiring complications (features) that are considered standard benchmarks today. So Seiko decided to relaunch the line with a new series of 27 watches, all slotted under five broad categories of use: Sports, Suits, Specialist, Street and Sense.

The new Seiko 5s will be familiar to fans of the vintage line, as they carry many of the same key features:
