The ‘Todd Snyder Collection’ Launches With Premium Italian & Japanese Fabrics

A 60-piece capsule collection inspired by Mexico City’s chic San Cristóbal neighborhood.

Todd Snyder just dropped a new 60-piece capsule collection inspired by Mexico City’s colorful San Cristóbal neighborhood and the elevated appeal of classic men’s tailoring. The designer’s limited-edition Todd Snyder Collection features “premium Italian and Japanese fabrics,” drops twice per year, and all garments are distinguished by a unique white label.

“Coming off of our runway show at Pitti Uomo in Florence last winter, I wanted to create a new imprint that allowed me to dream up more aspirational looks and then produce these styles in small batches at Europe’s finest mills with premium Italian and Japanese fabrics,” Snyder said in a statement announcing the line. “Creating looks for the runway and working with the gifted artists and weavers in Tuscany reminded me of why I became a designer in the first place and rekindled my desire to stretch creatively.”

For the first “San Cristóbal” drop, Snyder was inspired by the vibrant colors of Mexico City, in particular the warm modernist architecture of Luis Barragán. The collection features refined takes on open-weave linen shirts along with pleated trousers, gabardine suits and slouchy double-breasted jackets inspired by 1980s Italian tailoring along with the British Drape style. The collection also debuts a summer-ready Gabardine Belted Short with a double-reverse pleat and an 11-inch inseam that can be paired with a matching gabardine jacket for a night on the town.

“I always start a collection with a place,” Snyder explained. “Or a song. Or a moment in time. This one was inspired by the push-pull contrast of vibrant colors and earth tones one finds in Mexico City. The unconstructed suit silhouettes felt right at home when we photographed the campaign at Luis Barragán’s Cuadra San Cristóbal. He famously said that any building that ‘does not express serenity is a mistake.’ And that’s how I feel about the easy drape of these new suits, which as I learned as a young tailor is no easy feat to pull off.”

The Todd Snyder Collection is now available at Todd Snyder stores and on toddsnyder.com. Check out a sneak peek in the slideshow above.
