Ariel Winter Poses for Sizzling Bikini Shoot, Silences Haters Once Again

“I’m happy, and whatever people want to say, they can say,”

Ariel Winter just bared all for Refinery29—in more ways than one.

In addition to posing for the women’s digital magazine in a bevy of barely there bikini tops, the 19-year-old Modern Family star spoke frankly about overcoming body image issues and shutting down the shamers.

Namely, Winter described the tortures of living out her adolescent years before millions of Modern Family viewers, many of whom began to criticize her changing body.

“I went through a lot of hate online, so I tried to change myself for a really long time. But people just kept hating on me no matter what I did,” Winter said.

“I decided that instead of pleasing these other people, I’ll just spend that time pleasing myself. Those people are going to be rude to me regardless of what I do, so I should just try and be happy with what I am.”

And that she has. Since she turned 18, Winter has become an outspoken body-positive activist, hitting social media with all manner of revealing selfies. She said it’s not mere attention-seeking, but rather her rebel yell for women to “let their bodies be seen and be heard and to empower each other.”

Moreover, Winter pays mind to another source of hatred, the fact she dates and lives with a man 10 years older than her.

“I’m happy, and whatever people want to say, they can say,” Winter said.

“I don’t understand why someone would even comment on our situation at all. There are tons of people of all ages that live with their boyfriend. There are tons of people that live with their girlfriends, [and] tons of people that don’t live together and are super happy. But I’m super happy in the arrangement that we have. We love living together. It’s just great.”

Despite what seems to be a well of bottomless confidence and pluck, the young actress and social media siren admits she, too, has her bad days.

“It’s hard to be positive about your body all the time. I know because I’m honest about my insecurities that people think I’m 100% positive about my body all the time, but I’m not. I get really uncomfortable, too,” Winter said.

“But I just remind myself that this is the body I was given. This is who I am.”
