Approach with Caution. Average Joe’s May Apply. Results May Vary.
Rebecca Blumhagen: There are always guys on the subway trying to ask me out. Another time, I asked the checkout guy at Trader Joe’s out and that was awesome—empowering, actually.
Consider the Deal Broken
Sally Golan: Socks are a deal breaker. God, take those socks off!
Rebecca: I won’t have sex with a guy unless he’s wearing socks. Just kidding.
Sally: Someone once asked me to put my finger in his butt. That was weird.
“As Seen On TV” is Not “As Seen in the Bedroom”
Sally: When my character (Lizzy) dreams about her ex-boyfriend in the show, it’s a five-minute scene—it’s so dreamy and urgent. We did it all in one take. It was kind of violent and intense, since it was a dream. I actually had some bruises the next day.
Scripted Sex vs. Sex Sex
Sally: It doesn’t compare, because on screen sex scenes feel so unnatural. It’s choreographed, and there are lights, cameras, and makeup. Shooting sex scenes is one of the least sexy things in the world. You’re wearing stupid things to cover up, and you don’t feel like you’re in rhythm.
Women Should Live by the Rules of the Show
Rebecca: Number 40 is a good one: “Never wear panties unless they’re crotchless.” Which goes back to Rule #6: “Always be prepared.”
Be the Boss
Sally: There are some similarities between my character Lizzy and me, but unlike her, I’m not a big fan of taking over men. I love being a woman and being led by a man. I love being a girly girl.
Open the Toy Chest
Sally: I think the hottest thing right now is it’s finally all about the women coming first. There are a lot of toys and products geared towards us right now, and it’s pretty cool. Blindfolds. I think blindfolds are sexy, and it’s a little bit of power play.
Read the Blog
Rebecca: I love reading it. It’s so funny. There’s also a book of the same title coming out this spring.
The Girl’s Guide to Depravity premieres tonight on Cinemax.
