Emily Osment has come a long, long way from her Disney days.
The California native started out with a few bit roles as a kid before making her claim to fame as a member of Miley Cyrus‘s entourage on Hannah Montana. Following the show’s success, Osment chose to stay in the spotlight, balancing a life of television, music, and film by nabbing new roles and touring the world after releasing her debut album.
The 23-year old’s latest role reminds us that she isn’t a kid anymore, portraying a young blogger-turned-personal chef (who happens to sleep with her boss on the first day) on ABC Family’s Young & Hungry. While other programs from the network have shied away from scandalous content, this one has found the way to utilize its sexual innuendos properly, folding them in with plenty of comedic moments to create an experience we can all actually enjoy. It comes as no surprise that we’ll be seeing Emily around for a third season, premiering February 3rd.
Emily spoke with Maxim about feeling sexy in heels, good food, and even better tequila.
1. If you weren’t acting and you could do anything else, no training required, what would it be?
I think you would be hard pressed to find something you really loved doing that didn’t require some sort of training. You tend to enjoy things more when you’re fully educated in what you’re doing. My parents always thought I was going to be a writer and hopefully that’s still in the cards. My brother and I grew up reading everything in sight and I think that contributed to my career choice and would be a factor in anything I did if it wasn’t acting. I love words too much.
2. What would you say is your favorite curse word to use?
There’s this great scene in Almost Famous where Zooey Deschanel screams at Frances McDormand “FECK YOU! This is a house of LIES!” and Frances looks to William and says, “Well, there it is, your sister used the F word.” And he says, “I think she said… feck?” I try to use ‘feck’ as much as possible.
3. What do you feel most sexy wearing?
Really, really high heels. Ones I can walk in, of course. No one wants to look like a baby horse on ice.
4. Do you have a go-to drink of choice?
Don Julio Anejo, though I love afternoons at the Golden Road Brewery in my home town of Glendale.
5. If a man wanted to get your attention, what should he do?
Make eye contact, have humble intentions, some very smart humor, and food. Honestly, just approach me with food.
6. Describe what your ideal date would be like.
Please just feed me and make me laugh.
7. If you have a free afternoon, what would we find you doing?
You can usually find me at the beach. Malibu is only about forty minutes from where I live and I take advantage almost every weekend. There is never not sand in my car.
8. Do you have a favorite food?
I wholeheartedly believe in the perfect cheeseburger.
9. In regards to style, what do you like a man to wear?
An outrageous banana costume. I never miss those.
10. So what’s next for you?
I’m doing a recurring role on Mom right now before we begin shooting our third season of Young and Hungry in the fall. Allison Janney and Anna Faris just blow my mind. Every day it’s a new lesson on comedy. Everything feels very deliberate and underplayed and thoughtful. I’ve also always been a huge fan of Chuck Lorre, I’ve worked with him a couple times previously and watching that guy tick is the coolest thing. There’s a reason he’s the king of CBS.
